Île-à-la-Crosse Fish Company

The Ile a la Crosse Fish Company Inc. (IFCI) is a federally certified (CFIA) fish processing and packing plant, which is jointly owned by SDC and Big Island Fishermen’s Co-operative. The company directly employs local people; supports 50 commercial fishing businesses with up to 100 support workers. The company processes and supplies a high-quality sustainable product of walleye and pike. IFCI became its own agent of Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation and intends to expand its operations through its own distribution channels and markets.

Currently, IFCI supplies Federated Co-operatives Limited with walleye and pike products. Furthermore, IFCI has partnered with Wollaston Lake Fisheries and Northern Manitoba fishermen to supply high grade products. These products have won the Canadian Grand Prix New Product and the Co-

Sakitawak Development Corporation (SDC)

Sakitawak Development Corporation (SDC), is the economic development corporation for the Northern Village of Ile-a-la-Crosse. Our purpose is to invest in regional and community businesses across multiple sectors with emphasis on creating employment.

SDC’s seven voting board members are appointed by its sole shareholder, the Northern Village of Ile a la Crosse to carry out the operations of SDC. Currently, two are appointed Village Council members and five are members at-large. The Mayor of Ile a la Crosse serves as an ex-officio non-voting board member.
