Sakitawak Development Corporation (SDC), is the economic development corporation for the Northern Village of Ile-a-la-Crosse. Our purpose is to invest in regional and community businesses across multiple sectors with emphasis on creating employment.
SDC’s seven voting board members are appointed by its sole shareholder, the Northern Village of Ile a la Crosse to carry out the operations of SDC. Currently, two are appointed Village Council members and five are members at-large. The Mayor of Ile a la Crosse serves as an ex-officio non-voting board member.
Situated on the picturesque eastern shore of Ile-a-la-Crosse Lake, our vibrant community in northern Saskatchewan invites you to experience the beauty of our natural surroundings and immerse yourself in our rich Indigenous culture. With a history rooted in the fur trade, Ile-a-la-Crosse has long been a vital trading post and transportation hub. Named after a small island adorned with a cross, our community holds a special place in the hearts of those who appreciate the heritage of early explorers.
Today, Ile-a-la-Crosse is home to approximately 1,200 residents, predominantly belonging to the Cree and Métis peoples. We take great pride in preserving our Indigenous way of life, engaging in activities like trapping, wild rice harvesting, and the revitalization of our language and cultural traditions. Nature enthusiasts will find solace in the breathtaking scenery that surrounds us. Whether you’re fishing in the crystal-clear waters of Ile-a-la-Crosse Lake, embarking on a boating adventure, or exploring the forests on a hunting excursion, our region offers an abundance of outdoor activities to suit your interests.
